Binnie wins in Two Categories at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Deputy Minister’s Consulting Engineer Awards (2011-2012)
February, 2012: Every year, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure recognizes outstanding performance by consulting engineers that partner with the ministry in improving British Columbia’s transportation infrastructure.
Hosted by the Consulting Engineers of British Columbia, the annual celebration presents awards in: Design and Contract Preparation of Roads, Design and Contract Preparation – Structures, Construction Management and Supervision Services, and Specialized Engineering Services.
Binnie was the award winner in the Construction Management and Supervision Services category for their work on John Hart – Highway 97, Bennett Creek to Link Creek. This project was 11KM length and located in Pine Pass area north of Prince George. The project budget was approx $40,000,000 and took 3 years to construct. Because of the remote location, Binnie set up a fully functional on-site office in a trailer and many of the Binnie team members resided in mobile homes at the job site.

Binnie team members contributing to Hwy 97 project include: John Paley, P.Eng., Mike Newton, John McNee, Greg Loewen, Bruce Fazan, and several surveyors from our Geomatics Division.
Binnie was also a finalist in the Specialized Engineering Services category for their work on the Highway 37A Stewart Flood Response, an award shared with a team including 5 other consultants. In the September 2011 a heavy rain event triggered mud slides and flooding closing off the only highway access into town of Stewart. Binnie experienced day labour personnel were called into action by MOTI to restore the only access into town.

Binnie team members contributing to Stewart flood repairs include: John Paley, P.Eng., Mike Newton, Bob Newton, Mike Collison, and Jim Fletcher.
