Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West Stage 1 – Feasibilty Study

Overview
Binnie was initially selected by the City of Burnaby as their Prime Consultant and Civil Engineer for the first phase of the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West. The objective of the assignment included evaluating the feasibility of constructing a state-of-the-art synthetic turf, multi-use sport complex on a difficult 25-acre site. The site posed several geotechnical, environmental and physical challenges including highly variable and poor soil conditions, deposits of underlying domestic refuse, fish-bearing watercourse, wetland and relatively steep terrain. Our work included developing technically feasible options for the development of the site, incorporating all of the program objectives and environmental concerns.
