Lynn Canyon Park
Location: North Vancouver, BC
Overview The District of North Vancouver retained Binnie to develop conceptual and detailed designs for the core roadways, parking, pedestrian linkages and site servicing components of the Lynn Canyon Park re-development project. The existing park is heavily used by North Vancouver residents as well as tourists and is well known for its suspension bridge, canyon and creek.
Binnie was also responsible for preparing the conceptual design drawings to be used for open house meetings with the public and community environmental, recreational and neighborhood special interest groups. While maximization of parking was essential, the transportation management requirements needed to be carefully balanced with environmental impacts. Tree retention and storm water management were significant criteria of the development of a workable plan for the site.
The project is currently ongoing. Binnie's responsibilities and involvement will carry through to construction of the work. Utilizing a new infilled synthetic turf system, the facility is now the largest synthetic turf installation in North America and the first of its kind in Canada. Community sports groups can now play year round on the three synthetic turf fields.
