Port Moody North Shore Athletic Park Synthetic Turf Field & Natural Grass Field
Location: Port Moody , BC
Overview In September 2001, the City of Port Moody retained Binnie to start design of the North Shore Community Park and Secondary School Project. The project is a joint venture between the City of Port Moody and School District 43 and will provide a senior secondary as well as parks and sports facilities. This diversified and interesting project will require project management coordination with architects for the school regarding siting, utilities design, parking and road access, and project timing to have the new school open in 2004. The parks portion will be staged to coincide with the school construction and includes preparation of conceptual designs, sportsfield designs, pedestrian trail design, landscape design, contract documents and tendering, overall project management, contract administration, and quality assurance and inspection during construction.
The scope of park construction work includes a new synthetic turf field complete with synthetic running track, a grassed baseball diamond, a field house, a field drainage system, high mast field lighting, water supply and irrigation, fencing, park walkways, retaining walls, access roads, parking lots, road/parking lighting, landscaping and all related work.
Project challenges include environmental concerns with adjacent watercourses, sloping site topography and project scheduling to integrate school building design.
D.A. Hogan & Associates Inc. will be acting as our synthetic turf specialist for performance specification and minimum warranty language for the synthetic turf. Binnie will complete the design and specification of the field base, drainage, site servicing, grading and all other civil work.
