William Griffin Park Synthetic Turf Sports Field

Overview
The District of North Vancouver retained Binnie to act as the Owner's Engineer for the William Griffin synthetic turf sports field project. The project delivery method was Design/Build/ Finance and as the Owner's Engineer, our role included developing both the Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) and the Request for Proposal (RFP) documents and submission evaluation process, preparation of conceptual designs and performance specifications, overall project management, contract administration, and quality assurance and inspection during construction.

The scope of construction work includes conversion of a soil-based grass baseball/soccer field to infilled synthetic turf including reconstruction of the field base, new field drainage system, high mast field lighting, fencing, permanent and portable goals, site walkways, retaining walls and related work.

Project challenges included environmental concerns, sloping site topography, deep fill deposits, tight project schedule and integration of unique project financing parameters.

D.A. Hogan & Associates Inc., acting as our synthetic turf specialist, completed the performance specification and minimum warranty language for the synthetic turf. Binnie completed the design and specification of the field base, drainage, site servicing, grading and all other civil work.
