Transportation Engineering Services
Binnie has been preparing highways designs for over 20 years.   Following BC Ministry of Transportation restructuring, Binnie added several experienced Senior Highways Engineers, Technologists, Technicians and Managers to our team.   These members bring over 170 years of collective Ministry of Transportation experience, and give our team a solid understanding of transportation engineering practice.

Highway Design - Urban and Rural Environments:
our services include conceptual, preliminary and detailed design, contract document preparation and inspection for Provincial Highway projects. Some of our past projects include Highway 7, Highway 5A/97C, Fraser Highway through Aldergrove, Mariner Way through Coquitlam, several sections of Highway 99 through Squamish, Lougheed Highway through Pitt Meadows and Gibsons Bypass.

Roads through Mountainous and Steep Terrain:
our services include planning and detailed design of roads through steep, mountainous terrain. Consulting work includes developing designs which consider minimization of rock blasting, impact of steep grades on adjacent properties, innovative retaining walls design, management of storm water runoff and erosion, balancing of cuts and fills, etc. Some of our past projects include Whistler Nordic Center Access Road (Callaghan Valley), Garibaldi Highlands in Squamish, subdivisions in Whistler and the Howe Sound areas, Furry Creek development and Buena Vista Avenue in White Rock.

Feasibility and Route Selection Studies:
our services include undertaking detailed feasibility studies for major highways through urban and rural areas. Studies include evaluation of alternate routing, cost estimates, property impact evaluation, facilitation of negotiation with stakeholders, presentations at public hearings and public open house discussions. Some of our past projects include Gibsons Bypass, Silver Valley Arterial Road in Maple Ridge, Highway 67 through Barkerville and Sunshine Coast Regional Highway through Sechelt.

Roundabouts:
Roundabouts are being used more frequently in British Columbia, due to their preferred operational, safety and cost factors.   The growing familiarity with the public will likely result in increased consideration of roundabouts for applications in public sector intersection improvement and private land development projects.   Binnie's team is very experienced with the engineering and planning aspects for roundabouts.

Value Analysis /Value Engineering:
Binnie has been retained to provide Value Analysis/Value Engineering advice on a variety of road design projects.   This process provides an independent review of projects to identify major cost savings without compromising value-for-money, reliability, safety and level-of-service.
