Campbell Heights Sanitary Sewer

Location:
Surrey, BC

The Campbell Heights Industrial area in Surrey was serviced by an interim sanitary sewer system that had reached capacity with completed and approved developments for the region. The scope of work involved the design and construction of the ultimate sanitary sewer to service the Campbell Heights Industrial NCP Area located in Southeast Surrey.

The project was designed in 3 phases with Phase 1 being approximately 3800 metres of 450mm & 550mm HDPE twin pressure sewer, Phase 2 was approximately 2600 metres of 375mm – 750mm PVC gravity sewer, and Phase 3 was approximately 2200 metres of 400mm HDPE force main.  The design also included the crossing of the Serpentine River by attaching the twin pressure sewer mains to the existing bridge, the underground crossing of the CPR mainline and the tie in to the Metro Vancouver trunk sewer.

The pressure system was constructed entirely within the existing roadways of 184 Street and 40 Avenue which necessitated major road closures and detours while still maintaining local access to residents, farms and businesses.  Both roads were totally repaved after the work was completed. The sewer was designed to follow the proposed future road network and in some cases the sewer was in excess of 8 metres deep.  Phase 3 will be constructed in the future as development proceeds in the Campbell Heights area. The project was completed on time and within budget.
