Fraser Highway:184th to 196th Street
The scope of work for this project involved the upgrading of the existing 2-lane roadway, formerly the Trans Canada Highway, to a 4-lane divided arterial standard. The work included road widening, upgrading of existing municipal utilities, sidewalks, bus bays, undergrounding of major Telus facilities, relocation of Hydro poles, street lighting, traffic signals and landscaped medians and boulevards. The road upgrading also required coordination with several major adjacent land developments. A road safety audit was performed on the design by ICBC, as they were providing a portion of the funding along with Translink.
The design and construction of this project was divided into several phases due to funding parameters. Construction of Phase 1, 18500 Block to 19000 Block was completed in 2006, the construction of Phase 2, 19000 Block to 19300 Block, was recentley completed in September 2009 and the final phase to 196 Street is scheduled for construction in the next few years as funding becomes available.
Binnie's responibilities included: conceptual, preliminary and detailed design, public presentation style drawings, contract staging/packaging, tendering, contract administration and field inspection services.
