Pump Station Replacement

Location:
Pitt Meadows , BC

The District of Pitt Meadows retained Binnie to design and administer the construction of a replacement wet well and pumps for a failing sanitary pump station. The challenge was to maintain the existing station while the remedial work was undertaken. Compounding the fact that the station is located in a cul-de-sac in a residential neighbourhood, there was the difficulty of working around a number of existing underground utilities in the site.

To facilitate the installation of the new pump station wet well next to the existing pump station, we installed sheet piles to shore up the banks of the excavation. We used a vibrating hydraulic hammer to install the piles, which minimized any potential damage to the nearby homes.

After the installation of the new station, the sheet piles were cut off below ground, and sand was washed into the excavation in order to fill all the voids. The completed pump station was put into service, and we replaced the asphalt and curb and restored the front yard.
