Surrey Intersection Improvements
The City of Surrey required engineering services to carry out intersection improvements at a total of 13 locations throughout the City. This assignment involved project management and design services for works such as functional design of urban roundabouts, detailed design of new traffic signals, rebuilding of existing traffic signals, and conversion of pedestrian signals to new traffic signals. A number of existing crosswalks also required upgrades to provide a safer facility for pedestrians.
Binnie was responsible for preparing functional and detailed designs of intersection improvements to support the installation of new traffic signals. Intersection capacity analysis was required at a number of intersections to determine the laning configuration and to comment on whether a roundabout was feasible as the intersection control. We worked closely with the City and our electrical subconsultant to ensure each individual assignment was delivered efficiently. Special focus was also given to safely accommodate pedestrians with special needs, and cyclists.
Key personnel involved in the project include: Ron Wiebe - Project Manager, Keith Biggs - Senior CAD Technician, Jonathan Ho, P.Eng. - Traffic Engineer, Rohit Vithal, P.Eng, P.E. - Design Engineer.
